I am ABCDEFGHUMAN

ABCDEFGHUMAN exists as a response to the multiple situations in which design, branding, and installation art now operate — in real life and within systems.

It is a research-led design studio concerned with how ideas move between technology and modern culture. As such, work is shaped by modernist attitudes, conceptualism, and how far we can deliberately push systems to breaking point.

The project was founded in London in 2020-post-covid by British designer and artist John Lancaster, later relocating to Cambridgeshire in 2023. Work switches between internal and external commission; software design, product and fashion design, realtime art installation and electronic composition, branding, identities and campaign art.

The following people are credited by Lancaster for their inspiration and work in contemporary design:

In comprehensive school, I discovered programmable synthesisers, and it was to change my life forever. I was, and still am fascinated by the aesthetic, futuristic sound and modifiability of a synth. It sparked a deeper interest in technology and in learning machines as a means of creating art. At the time, I did not recognise just how closely the role of designer and artist aligned with that of a programmer.’
